Grandma Christine was living in Chibuli slum raising five grandchildren with no support. Through sponsorship all of her grandchildren attend school. However increasing violence at home made it unsafe for her and the children to remain there.
The living conditions were unsafe for the family. in addition to the risk of malaria, parasitic infections and malnourishment for her and her grandchildren
To build a small home for her and her grandchildren to start a new chapter.
Construction was completed in 2022 for Christine's home. Now safe and happy, her grandchildren attend a nearby school and she spends her days gardening and growing vegetables.
Phiona was living in Chibuli slum being raised by her grandmother. She was abandoned by her mother when she remarried. Phiona was surviving on Casava peels when Grandma Christine took her in. She has been in school for 7 years and wants to be a doctor when she graduates.
Her teachers describe her as "very sharp but needs more confidence"
Shirrat was being raised by her grandmother after losing her parents. She spent her time collecting water, washing clothes, picking avocados to sell and slept on a dirt floor. Shirat has been in school the last 5 years and now loves life.
Her teachers describe her as " always helping others and having a good character "
Ashu and his younger sister Grace are being raised by a single mom who sells french fries on the side of the road. The family rents a closet in a hair salon to sleep at night. Ashu has now been in school for 4 years and is so proud of his new life.
Teachers describe him as " an excellent student and a great older brother".
Through support of a Canadian sponsor Grace started school in 2023, she is happy attending the same school as older brother.
Denise is an orphan, abandoned by her mother and father.
Denise is now in boarding school and able to focus on learning.
Her teachers describe her as "shy and learning to feel safe"
Aggie and Maria are orphans, they were living in a tool shed with their grandmother until they were evicted.
Aggie been in school for the last 5 years.
Her teachers describe her as " very stubborn, but very smart"
Maria has been in school for the last 4 years.
Her teachers describe her as "much less stubborn than her sister, and very kind"
Anisha a cousin of Aggie and Maria, she is being raised by the same grandmother.
Anisha has been in school for the last 4 years. Her teachers describe her as "a top student, with a big heart"
